Red Bull reveal fan-designed Miami car

Red Bull 2023 Miami GP livery

By Thomas Miles

Red Bull has taken the covers off its fan-designed livery that will hit the track at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix.

The RB19 will look slightly different compared to its usual livery that has been largely untouched since 2017.

A car designed by Martina highlighted with additional pink and blue lines spread across the side pod will appear on the cars driven by championship leaders Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Not only will a fan-designed livery be seen racing around the Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, the initiative will also be used at the other two American based races at Austin and Las Vegas.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was excited to show it off.

“The Make Your Mark initiative is great, to give our fans the opportunity to influence our design at the three USA races is something you just don’t see other teams doing,” he said.

“It’s important to the team to be able to involve our fans in what we do and give them unique opportunities like this.

“I think Martina, has done a great job and the livery looks incredible when you see it in real life.

“The design keeps the ethos of who we are but introduces Miami to the RB19 as well. We are definitely going to stand out when you see that car on track.

“I’m intrigued to see what people come up with for Austin and of course Las Vegas, that promises to be really exciting.”

Red Bull has a history of carrying one-off liveries over the years with a special Stars Wars themed livery at the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, while a similar Superman look was used the following year.

For David Coulthard’s final race at Brazil in 2008, his car went all white for the Wings for Life charity.

The car Mark Webber drove to victory in the 2012 British Grand Prix also featured a tribute to the charity.

From a distance the livery looked similar to the usual 2012 colours, but up close it featured thousands of photos of people, who had donated to the charity and Webber’s drive ensured they were always part of history.

Aside from testing liveries, Red Bull used its familiar race liver for the next nine years until the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.

For what was initially scheduled to be the Japanese Grand Prix, Red Bull turned its cars white and red in a special tribute to power unit supplier Honda, which announced it was leaving the sport at the time.

Now the colourful RB19 will be added to the list at Miami this weekend.
