Habul swaps Mountain for Streets at AGP

By Timothy Neal

Bathurst 12 Hour winner Kenny Habul will race in the Porsche Carrera Cup at the Australian Grand Prix with TekworkX Motorsport.

The back-to-back B12H winner and current drivers leader of the Intercontinental GT Challenge will adorn a Porsche 992 in the SunEnergy1 racing colours for the first time in making his debut in the one-make series.

TekworkX Motorsport contested the 922 era of the Australian Carrera Cup with Max Vidau in 2022, taking a Round 1 win and claiming four podiums along the way to finish in tenth outright.

Habul will join fellow Tekworkx driver Danny Stutterd in the Pro Am class, with Max Vidau and Thomas Maxwell also racing for the team in the Pro class, with former Supercars driver Luke Youlden added as team manager for the four car assault.

It’s been a massive year for Habul thus far, as he looks to add another IGTC title to the three he already has, winning as a Bronze Driver in its inaugural season in 2018, before taking it twice as a Pro Am champion in ’21 and ’22.

Team owner Rob Woods is thrilled to add the experience of Habul to his strong four Porsche TekworkX line up at the AGP.

“We’re thrilled to have Kenny Habul joining the team for the Australian Grand Prix weekend,” said Woods.

“He has a wealth of experience all around the globe and is certainly regarded as one of the best Pro-Am class drivers in motorsport.

“To have him join TekworkX Motorsport to start the season is not only a great boost for us, but a fantastic addition to our Pro-Am stable alongside Danny Stutterd.

“As a team owner, I am under no illusion of the task we have with four cars entered, it is really special. This will be aided with the appointment of Luke Youlden as team manager for the 2023 season.

“To do it at the biggest stage on the calendar is a very exciting prospect. It’s a testament to the hard work from every single person on our team that we’ve been able to grow from one entry in 2021 to a four car operation to start 2023.”

The Porsche Carrera Cup will kick off its season on Thursday with practice and qualifying, as well as Race 1, with Races 2 and 3 coming on the Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
