Pither and Patterson Carrera Cup bound for EMA

Chris Pither and Garnet Patterson will line up for EMA Motorsport’s double assault on the Porsche Carrera Cup in 2023.
EMA’s first season with the Porsche 992 GT3’s in 2022 reaped third place in the championship with David Russell behind the wheel, achieving multiple podiums in solid single-car push.
Expanding to a two-Porsche stable in 2023, former Supercars racer Pither, and LMP2/LMP3 regular Patterson, will take the #42 and #74 entries, debuting at the Australian Grand Prix next weekend for the season opener.
The 36-year-old Pither, who was let go by PremiAir last season, will turn his veteran talents to the 922’s, and is primed for the new, and somewhat different challenge.

“I’m excited to join EMA Motorsport, and by the challenge of racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup for the first time,” Pither said.
“The car is very different to what I have become accustomed to in Supercars – simple points like being left hand drive – but, more so, the way the car makes its speed and how to maximise the tyre.
It will be a steep learning curve, but I have high expectations and it’s great to stay active and drive in a highly competitive championship.”
Patterson comes from a vastly different discipline to Pither in motor racing of late, having just competed in the Asian Le Mans Series in Abu Dhabi, driving LMP3 prototype machinery (Ligier JS P320) with Yasser Shahin and Oliver Jarvis.

Competing for United Autosports, they picked up a P2 in Race 3 of 4, and now Patterson will add another notch to his already varied career of open wheelers, and prototypes.
“It is something new for the 2023 season, but I’m looking forward to adding the challenge of Carrera Cup to my programme and racing at home in Australia, which I haven’t done in almost 10 years,” he explained.
“EMA Motorsport have shown their strength throughout last season, finishing third in the championship and I’m looking forward to working with them to form a successful relationship into the future.”
The two experienced drivers will face fire by brimstone on the quick Albert Park street circuit, the first of an eight round season, in which EMA will be hoping to go a few spots better with their now-solid two-car team.
