World Time Attack to speed into Sydney

The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge will be sprinting back to Sydney Motorsport Park next year.
The event will take place on the first weekend in September and feature the best talent and cars from around Australia and the globe to create a festival of high-speed festival at the well-known Western Sydney circuit.
Competitors will be pushing the limits in pursuit of the one perfect lap with Barton Mawer the driver to beat after topping 2022 with a 1:20.1010 when the event returned after a three-year break due to COVID-19 and attracted more than 15,000 fans.
Mawer has won the last three events since 2017 when Tim Slade knocked him off by half a second in a Nissan.
Attendees can expect to see the fastest drivers push to limits rarely seen with the outright SMP lap record of 1:19.277s set by Mawer in the 2019 WTAC 10 seconds quicker than the Supercars benchmark set by Jamie Whincup.
Last year fans were also treated to a special demonstration from an RB16 which Max Verstappen drove to victory twice in 2020 and ran side by side with the Arrows F1 car his father Jos Verstappen drove in 2001.
In the 2023 edition, the event will introduce some new rules and regulations that have been developed with the aim of increasing safety without sacrificing speed.
WTACC reverts to its popular ‘time by day, drift by night’ format where international guests are also expected with some ‘top-secret’ names already readying to rub doors with local talent.
In another change Pro and Pro-Am teams will be able to engineer their car to suit for slick tyres for the first time in WTAC history.
In addition to the breathtaking speed on track, the StylizeD outdoor show and shine will take place on Saturday with impressive engine bays, bodywork, wheel setups and paint palettes.
The 2023 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge will be held on September 1-2 with tickets to be announced early in the new year.
