Carrera Cup jet to race in Bahrain

Australia’s recently crowned Carrera Cup champion Harri Jones has been testing in Bahrain for Lechner Racing, and will race in round 1 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.
Jones hung on over a charging Aaron Love to claim the title at the Gold Coast 500 by 11 points, and now has a busy schedule ahead, leaving for Europe after Bahrain for the Porsche Motorsport Junior Shootout.
Jones spoke about the incredible experience of testing with the defending Middle East Supercup champions.
“I have the opportunity of a lifetime to test and race with Lechner Racing. They are a very professional outfit with some incredible credentials,” Jones said.
“I have already learnt so much over the two days of testing here in Bahrain. It’s been a privilege to drive the pink BWT car and now with a full race weekend ahead of us I’m excited to show them what we are capable of.

Jones will use the experience to prepare himself for the European junior Porsche shootout, where he has a chance to win a place on the prestigious Mobil 1 Supercup grid.
“My time spent here in Bahrain has been perfect for my preparation leading into Junior Shootout. I have needed to change my driving style a little bit to suit the Formula 1 style circuits. Here I have time to adapt and get input from the best in the business. So, I’m looking forward to taking everything I have learnt over here and putting it to good use at the shootout.”
Jones was initially just invited for testing, but his abilities impressed team principal Robert Lechner to such an extent that it has led him to getting a berth in the first round of the Persian Gulf competition.
“I first met Harri at the final round of the Mobil 1 Supercup at Monza. He is a very impressive young guy and after two successful days of testing, we are all excited to see him race in the BWT Junior car this weekend in Bahrain.” Lechner said about Jones.
23-year-old Jones had a stellar run in the 2022 carrera cup, going on an early season tear of eight podiums which included four wins, enough to hold off the late finishing Love on the Gold Coast.
Since debuting in the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2016, Jones has racked up some huge numbers locally, taking 88 Podiums, 46 Race wins and 3 Australian Championships.
