QUEENSLAND RACEWAY ROARS INTO LIFE WITH STAR-STUDDED SPEEDSERIES.

After a three absence of any major motorsport, the revamped Queensland Raceway will host round five of the Shannons SpeedSeries this weekend.
The heavily aged facilities have been given a facelift under the guidance of new owner Tony Quinn, with a new Pitlane and improved spectating areas installed.
“Queensland Raceway was first opened in 1999 through the efforts of local enthusiasts and the QLD State government of the time. It is safe to say not a lot has changed at the venue since it was first opened,” said Quinn.
“The entire facility needed a complete overhaul. The equipment, buildings, track surface and grounds had been unloved for 10+ years, & it showed.
“It was a great way to say ‘Welcome to Queensland Raceway’.”
This weekend, the raceway will host the TCR Australia series, GT World Challenge Australia, Trans Am, Radical cup Australia, Australian Production Cars, GC Marine prototype series, and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia series.
A plethora of stars will take to the track, including Shane van Gisbergen, David Reynolds, Brodie Kostecki, and four times Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander.
With the weekend’s racing being shown live on Stan Sport on the Saturday and Sunday, fans who can’t attend can tune into the much hyped event from 11pm-5pm both days.
Micheal Smith, the Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations, had a few words to say in anticipation of what is a massive weekend for the sport in Queensland.
“It’s very exciting for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships to be heading to Queensland Raceway this weekend, especially after all the good work Tony has done,” Smith said.
“I believe there is a good feeling amongst teams, drivers and officials about the circuit’s return and it’s fantastic that Shannons will be the first major event there since its reopening.
“The weather should turn it on for the event, so I think Queensland motorsport fans should do their best to get out to Ipswich and enjoy a brilliant weekend of racing.”
