MACROW DISAPPOINTED WITH HERNE AFTER S5000 CONTACT

By Timothy Neal

Tim Macrow has expressed his frustration towards Nathan Herne for an incident in Race 3 of the S5000 round at Sydney Motorsport Park which left the former facing the wrong way while running at the front of the field.

Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Herne showed himself to be the pacesetter early in the final encounter, moving up into second past Joey Mawson with a successful move at the final turn on lap 2.

Sensing an opportunity to push for his first win in the category, Herne attempted a similar move on Macrow, making contact with the rear of his orange machine which sent it into a spin.

Macrow plummeted down the order as a result, later recovering to fifth while Herne was given a drive-through penalty for his role in the clash.

Given the negative impact of the incident on his title ambitions, Macrow was clear in his frustration.

“I was just in the middle of the corner and he has just drilled me,” Macrow said.

“It’s the second time he has done it to me, he did it to me last year and it cost me a championship.

“It’s pretty disappointing. It’s not a Trans Am car and he needs to learn that.”

With Herne serving a penalty, Aaron Cameron inherited the race victory, winning from Mawson whom he passed on lap 8.

James Golding completed the podium, while the rest of the finishing order read Blake Purdie, Macrow, Shae Davies, and Herne.

Mawson leaves Sydney as the clear standings leader, while Macrow will have plenty of work to do to reel in the defending champion.
