MOSTERT: WEATHER WILL PLAY ROLE IN BATHURST 12 HOUR RESULT

Chaz Mostert has predicted that the weather conditions in tomorrow’s Bathurst 12 Hour race will influence the outcome, after his CoinSpot Racing Team secured pole position for the Mount Panorama enduro.
Teaming up with Liam Talbot and Fraser Ross, Mostert took advantage of a revised qualifying format to storm to top of the timesheets, setting up his squad for a potential victory.
However, the Walkinshaw Andretti United Supercar driver said that cool conditions played a big part in his success on Saturday, predicting that a change in weather might pose some challenges for the Audi.
“I think we had perfect conditions for our car,” Mostert said.
“Every time it’s been cold, including through practice, the speed has been in it.
“But then we kind of struggle a little bit when it’s been a little bit warmer.
“I’m a little bit worried for the car during the heat of tomorrow.”
The forecast for tomorrow is a maximum temperature of 19 degrees with 1-3mm of rainfall possible.
While Mostert is anticipating more challenging conditions than those of Saturday, ultimately he is prepared for anything.
“Who knows what the weather will do tomorrow, it could be looking pretty fast but it could rain who knows around here,” Mostert said.
“Every time I come here there’s a Bathurst god that’s ready to pick the winner.”
Speaking on his hot ‘shootout’ lap, Mostert explained that his success was down to a number of factors.
“I mean, we’re pretty lucky these cars have got ABS and all that kind of stuff, so you can go searching a little bit,” Mostert said.
“It’s a pretty unique end of the lap here, you’ve got two massive brake zones to finish the lap. I went really deep in the Chase, somehow the car pulled up and I flowed good speed.
“There’s a lot in this last corner as well, which I didn’t quite get right for most of the sessions through practice and quali, there might have been a bit of dirt on the track and somehow it got me rotated a bit better around to the line.
“I’m just an Aussie bogan so sometimes if you ask how to do a lap I don’t even know how to do it myself.”
Mostert and his teammates will line up on the front row tomorrow alongside the Audi Sport Team Valvoline car of Kelvin van der Linde, Nathanael Berthon and Brad Schumacher.
The Bathurst 12 Hour kicks off at 5:15am.
