INAUGURAL TCR CHAMPION RETURNS

Inaugural TCR Australia Champion Will Brown returns to the series this season, joining Audi Sport Customer Racing for 2022.
The full-time Supercars Championship driver will also will contest the full TCR series driving the Audi RS3 LMS TCR car driven to last year’s series title by Chaz Mostert.
Brown’s TCR campaign this year will be backed by renowned German oil brand, LIQUI MOLY, who join the series this year as the teams title sponsor.
“I’m pumped to be back racing in the TCR Australia Series with LIQUI MOLY and Audi Sport Customer Racing,” said Brown.
“After winning the series in 2019, I didn’t get the chance to defend the title in 2020 that was planned, so it is great to get back in these cars and hit the grid.
“I am excited to see what the Audi is like. It is one of the best cars in the field and being run by the team at Melbourne Performance Centre is huge. There’s a bit of pressure to back up what Chaz was able to achieve last year by winning the series, but I’m up for the challenge.
“Everything I do, I want to win. Racing in TCR is no different and I’ll be aiming to be near the front right from the start.
“I really enjoy competing in multiple categories of racing. For me, the more racing you do, the better you are. I have a few other types of racing on the horizon too, so I want to be in a race car as much as I can. I really can’t wait for the year to kick off in TCR at Symmons Plains.”
Brown shot onto the national motorsport scene with success in Formula Ford, Formula 4 and the Toyota 86 Series before stunning the TCR Australia Series field in 2019 with a dominant series win, driving a Hyundai i30 N for HMO Customer Racing.
He remains the most successful driver in TCR Australia to date, having won seven races during the 2019 season.
“We are delighted to welcome Will Brown to the Melbourne Performance Centre team, driving the series-winning Audi RS 3 TCR,” said Troy Russell, Managing Director, Melbourne Performance Centre.
“Will proved his talent in the inaugural season driving for one of our rivals, so now it’s great to have him in our corner, filling the shoes of Chaz who did a terrific job last year.
“Having LIQUI MOLY join our team is also a huge coup for Melbourne Performance Centre and the TCR Australia Series. LIQUI MOLY is a huge international brand, so for them to join this global touring car class makes sense on many levels.
“We can’t wait to get down to Symmons Plains and start the season, and we know that with Will and LIQUI MOLY, we are going to be in a strong position from the outset.”
Brown joins a host of motorsport stars in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series in 2022 with the likes of former Supercars stars Fabian Coulthard (Honda), James Moffat (Renault) and Michael Caruso (Alfa Romeo) and a number of young guns like Jordan Cox (Peugeot), Aaron Cameron (Peugeot) and Josh Buchan (Hyundai) in the competitive touring car class.
“Motor racing is part of the LIQUI MOLY DNA and we are excited to be joining forces with Melbourne Performance Centre and their winning Audi RS 3 LMS TCR car,” said Mark Johnson, Managing Director LIQUI MOLY Australia.
“Adding the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series to our Australian calendar in 2022 provides us with an exciting opportunity to further entrench the LIQUI MOLY brand in the motorsport arena.”
“To have Will back racing in TCR is great news, and even better yet that he will be steering the LIQUI MOLY Audi to what we hope is another successful season for MPC. Will has been a force to contend with in every series of racing he has been in, and we look forward to seeing Will and the LIQUI MOLY Audi on the podium this year.”
The opening round of the 2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be held at Symmons Plains Raceway for the second running of the AWC Race Tasmania on February 11-13.
