After rescuing the Australian motorsport calendar in 2021, Sydney Motorsport Park will again be on show this year with the dates for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event finally confirmed.

The Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships will take to Sydney Motorsport Park on May 27-29 after the date and venue for the New South Wales event was previously listed at TBC.

A slew of categories will compete, Australian Racing Group categories such as the TCR Australia Series, S5000 Australian Drivers Championship and GT World Challenge Australia (Motorsport Australia GT Championship) are among those expected to be part of the final line up.

The second tier Porsche Sprint Challenge is also expected to be on the bill in Sydney.

Sport and Western Sydney Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres was looking forward to enhancing SMP’s reputation through the upcoming event.

“The Motorsport Australia Championships is a great event for Western Sydney that will generate economic and social benefits locally and for the State, providing jobs in hospitality and events,” Ayres said.

“We are proud to be able to showcase Sydney’s world class motorsport facilities following the NSW Government’s upgrade to Sydney Motorsport Park.”

Australian Racing Group CEO Matt Braid was confident that the event would be a hit with all parties involved.

“Sydney Motorsport Park is one of the most popular venues on our calendar, and it’s fantastic that our suite of Australian Racing Group categories will race there in May this year,” Braid said.

“The facilities at SMSP are among the best in the country. Our competitors love it and the teams and sponsors enjoy the hospitality.”

Tickets will go on sale soon through the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships website for the family friendly event which will provide activations and activities for attending fans.

Ticket holders will get full access to the pit paddock and the chance to meet the stars and cars of each category.
