PREMIAIR RACING OFFICIALLY PURCHASE TEAM SYDNEY

By Dan McCarthy

Jonathon Webb, founder and owner of Supercars Championship outfit Team Sydney has officially confirmed the sale of his team to PremiAir Racing.

The former Bathurst 1000 winner has released a statement confirming the sale and the news that he and wife Kobe Webb would not be returning to the Supercars Championship in 2022.

“Kobe and I are grateful that Peter Xiberras and PremiAir Hire will continue to build Team SYDNEY within the Supercars Championship,” Jonathon Webb said in the statement.

“We are thankful for the support and friendships we have welcomed over the past 12 years of racing – significantly Tony Quinn, Triple Eight, KRE, ARDC, Steve Hallam, Dr. Geoffrey Slater, Mick Shortus (our first employee who remained with us for our entire Supercars journey), and many more.

“Thank you to our drivers, crew, and families.

“We look forward to seeing what the 2022 season brings for all involved – all the best.”

Xiberras’ take over leaves him with six weeks to sign up mechanics and crew before the start of the Supercars Championship in Newcastle.

Team Sydney drivers Garry Jacobson and Fabian Coulthard were contracted with Team Sydney for the 2022 season, however under the new ownership it is unknown if they will be hired by the new owners.

AUTO ACTION contacted both Coulthard and Jacobson but got no response.
