The third round of the Supercars Championship at Symmons Plains, near Launceston in Tasmania has been delayed in response to the Queensland lockdowns.

Supercars has confirmed the originally April 10-11 event has been delayed a week after Tasmania was one of the first states to close its borders to the Brisbane localities identified as hot spots.

The new April 17-18 weekend provides teams the opportunity to spend the mandatory 14-days outside of Queensland in case the current Brisbane lockdown is extended and/or expanded.

Queensland teams Dick Johnson Racing, Triple Eight Race Engineering and Matt Stone Racing have all either transferred or are in the process of moving into New South Wales today to ensure each is not affected by any changes to the current lockdown restrictions.

Supercars has issued the following statement:

In light of the current COVID-19 situation in Brisbane, Supercars has made the precautionary decision to delay the upcoming Beaurepaires Tasmania SuperSprint by one week.

The event will now be held across the weekend of 17-18 April. All tickets already purchased for the event will remain valid and will be moved to the new event dates.

As has been the case since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Supercars staff and race teams will comply with all applicable government regulations in travelling to and staging the event.

Supercars thanks all fans for their ongoing patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to a safe event in Tasmania in the coming weeks.

Logistical plans remain fluid, but teams must be based in NSW for the next 14-days in order to enter Tasmania in time for the rescheduled event.

At this stage Supercars has no plans to set-up a hub at Sydney Motorsport Park like what was done for the Victorian teams last year.
