The Australian Motor Racing Series signals the return of motorsport in New South Wales this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The NSW Production Touring Car Championship, NSW Production Sports/Super GT and HQ Holdens will contest one-hour races on the Sunday, while TA2, Group S and Mazda RX8 Cup fill out the program.

A quality TA2 field is highlighted by new addition Andrew Fisher, who trades in his Touring Car Masters Ford Falcon GT-HO for a Dream Racing Chev Camaro.

It’s a new test for Fisher in adapting to drive the 6-litre left-hand-drive beast.

“It’s going to be a challenge for sure, the car is left-hand-drive (I have only raced one other LHD car),” said Fisher. “They have lots of power and move around a lot on the tyre compared to what I am used to.

“None-the-less we will be out on track displaying the name of Jesus and having fun so don’t feel too sorry for me.”
Combined with TA2 is the Stock Cars class.

Fisher is joined by Hugh and Ian McAlister, Chris Formosa and Zac Loscialpo in an 11-car TA2 field.

Current specification GT3 models take to the grid in SuperGT courtesy of returning overseas competitor Andrew MacPherson will pilot his Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and the Vince Muriti in his recently purchased Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Others to watch include Nick Kelly in his Audi R8 GT3 LMS Ultra and the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car of Indiran Padayachee

Group S Sports Cars will feature a wide array of makes, models and configurations headlined by the updated De Tomaso Pantera Euro-GTS of Carey McMahon, which autoaction.com.au covered in its What’s In The Workshop focused on Flo-gineering.

Noted historic driver Terry Lawlor in his Shelby GT350 is expected to be the combination to beat, although the Porsches of Wayne Seabrook and Doug Barbour will pose a threat.

In a rarity, the HQs contest a one-hour endurance event on the Sunday and there are some familiar names among the entry. Former Supercars driver and V8 Utes champion Layton Crambrook leads the field, while Richard Mork and Peter Dane are enlisted as co-drivers in separate entries.

Daniel D’Aquino is close to winning the NSW Production Touring Car crown driving his B2 Holden VE Commodore SSV.

D’Aquino leads a diverse field ranging from a HSV VF GTS to a Suzuki Swift Sport in contesting three races across the weekend.

Rounding out the classes is the growing Mazda RX8 Cup featuring a mix of younger and older competitors.

Due to COVID-19 regulations no spectators will be permitted, but keep an eye on the AMRS socials for the updates.
