Big field set for Aussie Racing Cars return

By Thomas Miles

A 32-car field will contest the second round of the 2024 Aussie Racing Cars at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

It’s the second year in succession that the popular Aussie Racing Cars have supported the Superbikes, and have again drawn a large and competitive field.

A tight and tense battle for the lead that was established at the Bathurst 500 opener will resume at Ipswich.

Reigning Champion Joel Heinrich leads the way but only by a single point from Kody Garland, while Reece Chapman is also in close proximity.

The likes of Brandon Madden, Cody Brewczynski, Kyle Ensbey, Anthony DiMauro and Josh Anderson also hope to be racing up the front.

Returning to the fray is Scott Taylor Motorsport after close to a year away.

Taylor last raced at Townsville 2023 and whilst he has never contested an entire season, he is no stranger with his debut a decade ago.

He will steer the #222 with a familiar black and green paint scheme that is scene in the GT and Carrera Cup scene.

Taylor is looking forward to having fun again in the category.

“The Aussie Racing Cars are a great little car, the category has great events and with this weekend being in my own backyard, I thought I may as well come out and have a go,” said Taylor.

“The cars are just a whole lot of fun. I was racing in GTs and Carrera Cup, and because I had a year out with a health scare, I thought instead of jumping back into first grade, why not ease back with a fun and safe class.

“I’ve done quite a few Aussie Racing Cars events, and every time I come home, my wife says I have a huge smile on my face. It’s so much fun to be a part of.

Four races will be held with races 3 and 4 to be broadcast on YouTube via the Australian Superbikes channel on Sunday.

Podcast: Stunning Taupo Shines Through the Gloom | Supercars back in New Zealand

We’re back from our weekend in Taupo (Tow Paw), and what an unbelievable first weekend for that venue. It was, we felt, the start of this season, too, despite it being the third round. Andrew and Bruce were there, and PG was on the couch.

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races – is Dick Johnson Racing back?
