Supercars has confirmed that Super2 will not race as support to this year’s Bathurst 1000 due to the costs associated with mandatory quarantine periods.

Advised this afternoon, Super2 teams will not race at Bathurst as previously announced, but work is underway to conduct standalone events during November and December.

Discussions between Supercars, team owners and circuit operators to hold events beyond the final round of the Supercars Championship are being undertaken, though nothing has been confirmed.

However, these plans rely heavily on border closures and restrictions if these events are to take place.

Victorian teams make-up the majority of the Super2 field including series leaders MW Motorsport, Eggleston Motorsport and Image Racing.

In a statement, Supercars said various category managers were being conducted in an attempt to provide a support to the Bathurst 1000 with the mostly likely option being a similar class to the Townsville Tin Tops, which will also carry over to The Bend Motorsport Park.

However, Super2 and Super3 entrants that can get to Bathurst without needing to quarantine are invited to participate in the Tin Top class.
