Supercars tweaks practice schedules

By Thomas Miles

Supercars has tweaked the practice formats for the upcoming rounds at Perth, Darwin, Tasmania and Sandown.

For both the Perth and Tasmania Supersprints, a single 90-minute session was on the cards for Friday, but that has now been shortened to 60 minutes.

This has been made to ensure extra 20-minute sessions on both Saturday and Sunday morning can take place prior to qualifying and racing.

The Darwin Triple Crown schedule has also received a similar makeover.

Like Perth the Friday 90-minute practice session has been trimmed to 60 minutes, with an additional 30-minute practice to take place on Saturday morning.

The shortened session makes way for the provisional qualifying session to take centre stage on Friday afternoon. The fastest 10 will make the Saturday Top 10 Shootout.

To add extra incentive, the only way to claim the Triple Crown trophy is to top Friday qualifying and win both weekend races.

For the 60th anniversary Sandown 500, the original pair of 40 minute practice sessions have been split into three half-hour runs.

The first will be for the main game drivers, the second for co drivers and the third will be open to all.

Saturday’s pair of 40-minute practices, qualifying and top 10 shootout remains unchanged.

The Supercars season resumes at Taupo on April 19-21.
