Fourth TCR manufacturer represented as Hyundai TCR car arrives in Australia.

As interest and momentum builds towards the TCR Australia series kicks off in May 2019, the first of two Hyundai i30 N TCR race cars has arrived in Australia via airfreight ahead of the official media launch event of the 2019 TCR Australia Series at SMP on Monday.

Sydney-based HMO Customer Racing welcomed the Hyundai to its race team on Friday evening, flown directly from Hyundai Motorsport’s global racing headquarters in Germany.

The car has arrived just days before its Australian on-track debut at Sydney Motorsport Park on Monday as part of the TCR Australia ‘media and competitors’ day and will have a shakedown run at the new Luddenham Raceway today (Sunday) ahead of its public debut on Monday.

The Hyundai i30 N joins the Audi RS 3, Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic for the invite-only test day.

The highly competitive Hyundai i30 N TCR made its debut in 2017, and the car has gone onto impressive victories across several international and national championships. Hyundai Motorsport has constructed and supplied close to 40 examples of the i30 N race car in just over 18 months.

“HMO Customer Racing is very excited to be competing in the inaugural TCR Australia series,” said Barry Morcom, Owner, HMO Customer Racing.

The team is expecting it’s second i30 N to arrive in coming weeks.

“We have great support from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, and we are pleased to have received our first i30 N into Australia. This car was airfreighted from Germany, and our second car will arrive soon via sea freight.

“With the various manufacturers, HMO Customer Racing sees this world-renowned category as an exciting step for Australian motorsport. We will announce our drivers in for 2019 in due course” confirmed Morcom.

Supporting the arrival, Matt Braid-Director, Australian Racing Group said, “It is fantastic to see the arrival of our fourth different make of TCR car to Australia ahead of next year’s championship.”

“Hyundai is one of the world’s biggest car manufacturers, but in comparison to its rivals in the automotive world, it has a young history in motorsport.

“I’m not surprised at all, though, that they have enjoyed so much early success in TCR on a global front and we’re looking forward to seeing the HMO Customer Racing team on the grid next year.”
