If you think that’s a provocative headline, you’re right. It’s meant to be.

There is a racer-look Chevrolet Camaro at Bathurst – the one in the photo above, which is on display at the HSV merchandising area at Mount Panorama.

But the Mobil 1 Boost Mobile Racing-liveried road-going Camaro SS is just a small part of a big story about the Chevy coupe’s potential to rival its historic arch-enemy, the Ford Mustang, in Supercars.

All the exciting details of the latest developments are in the new issue of AUTO ACTION, on sale now.

We also have a rendering of a Camaro Supercars racer that insiders confirm is a dead spit of how HSV designers have envisaged it.

The warpainted Camaro on display during the Bathurst 1000 is there to generate interest and discussion among fans.

The new bumper issue of AUTO ACTION explains why.

Wrapped in the same livery as the Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden Commodore ZB racers, the show car is one of the new right-hand drive ‘remanufactured’ imported Camaros being produced by HSV to OEM standard.

The adapted Camaro is a more exclusive alternative to the factory made Mustang, which has been a big hit with local V8 muscle car devotees since the demise of the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore.

An unadorned Camaro SS road car is also on display at the HSV stand at Mount Panorama.
The latest AUTO ACTION is a mega 68-page pre-Bathurst issue also featuring an update on how the new Mustang will escalate the V8 arms race. We spoke exclusively to Ford Performance racing boss Mark Rushbrook in Detroit.

AA’s monster 24-page pull-out guide to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 has everything you need to know about The Great Race.

There’s The Larkometer – TV pit plane pundit Markham’s exclusive gauge of the leading contenders – and legendary rivals Mark Skaife and Russell Ingall in agreement like never before.

Reigning Bathurst 1000 champion David Reynolds is at his zany best talking about why he can win it again, and we bring veterans Jason Bright and Steven Richards together to reminisce on the 20th anniversary of their amazing victory together.

AA also farewells the Falcon at Mount Panorama and celebrates the 50th anniversary of Holden’s first win.

All this and all the other essential information you need to follow The Great Race trackside or at home is in the latest AUTO ACTION, on sale now.
