Brenton Grove has announced his plans to step into the Dunlop Super 2 this year in ex-Triple Eight VF Commodore after originally planning on racing in Porsche Carrera Cup.

The twenty-year old Victorian, fresh off the back his Class B win at the Bathurst 12 Hour, confirmed his plans to join the second tier Supercars series in the car raced by Craig Lowndes in last year’s Virgin Australia Supercar Championship.

His family team, Grove Motorsport will prepare the car with a technical alliance from Dunlop Super2 front runners Eggleston Motorsport.

The son of two time Porsche Carrera Challenge Champion Stephen Grove, Brenton has largely spent his junior career in a Porsche GT3 Cup Car, last year racing in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge securing a podium finish in every round and collecting three race wins along the way.

“It’s such an amazing opportunity that I have for 2018,” said Grove.

“Originally, the plan was to do Carrera Cup however late last year we looked at Super2 and realised it was the smarter thing to do in the hope of forging a career in Supercars.

“I knew straight away that if there was an opportunity to do Super2 it was only going to have been with Grove Motorsport in an ex-Triple Eight Commodore.

“Triple Eight have shown their credentials over the last 10 years, so to be able to race in Craig’s car from last year is something I couldn’t pass up”.

Having only sampled a Supercar for a handful of laps late last year, Grove is relishing the opportunity to begin testing and understand the characteristics of a Supercar.

“It’s going to be very different to what I’ve raced in the past,” added Grove.

“The cars are obviously right hand drive where the Porsche is left so there’s just a few small things that I will need to adjust to.

“It’s a learning year for me so I won’t be putting any pressure on myself to start with. I just want to advance each time I drive the car and if I can do that i’ll be quite happy.”

Once again, Grove will carry the White Ribbon logo on his car to raise awareness for their campaign to eradicate domestic violence within Australia.

The 2018 season kicks off with the opening round of the Dunlop Super2 Series at the Adelaide 500 from March 1-4.
