Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) has announced that the global expansion of TCR will shortly include Australia.

CAMS released a statement earlier today announcing that they had signed a five-year agreement with WSC Ltd, the organisation behind TCR, for the development of TCR Australia, which is expected to see the series begin in 2019.

The announcement sees Australia follow in the footsteps of the World Touring Car Championship which has now adopted TCR regulations for 2018.

“We are absolutely delighted. The deal with CAMS, which is the driving force behind the success of Australian motorsport, adds a fourth continent to those – Europe, Asia and the Americas – where TCR series have already been established.” said Marcello Lotti, CEO of WSC.

“This is also a great challenge, because motorsport is hugely popular in Australia and the local fans are enthusiastic and competent. We are confident that they will soon learn to love TCR just as has happened with their fellow fans across the rest of the world.”

Eugene Arocca, CAMS CEO, thinks the new category will have market relevance in Australia and is now on the hunt for the promoter for the category.

“This is an exciting development for Australian motorsport. TCR Australia will provide the opportunity for affordable, competitive action in cars that are direct derivatives of popular road going cars.” said Arocca

“We are looking forward to working with manufacturers and competitors to ensure the success of this category. The worldwide interest in TCR has been very encouraging and we anticipate that the competitive Australian car buying market will see a number of manufacturers support the category.

“We are now inviting expressions of interest from relevant parties in regards to the promotion of TCR Australia through a commercial management agreement.

TCR already has manufacturer support from several global brands including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Fiat, Hyundai, Honda, Kia, Mercedes, Subaru and Volkswagen.
