Just 15 cars will take to the track for this years 250 kilometer non-points Super2 series race at Mt Panorama next weekend with a number of regular competitors opting to skip the race.
The shortage of cars entered for this year’s second tier series mini enduro at Bathurst, has prompted organisers to make arrangements to return the race to points paying status in 2018.
For 2017, the Super2 race had been removed from the championship to encourage teams to enter as wildcards in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. However, due to a number of factors, there has been wildcard entries for this years main race.
Some Super2 regulars, including Garry Jacobson and Richard Muscat have elected to sit out of the 250km race to focus their attention on their co-driver duties in the 1000km race. While others, including Anton de Pasquale, Shae Davis and Adam Marjoram will sit out due to budget constraints focusing their attention on the final round in Newcastle.
“It’s clearly a disappointing outcome for our fans,” Supercars CEO James Warburton told Supercars’ official website.
“We’ll be re-establishing Bathurst as a championship round to rectify the situation in 2018.”
Five drivers will do the double with Paul Dumbrell, Todd Hazelwood, Macauley Jones, Jack Perkins and Jack Le Brocq all lining up for both the Bathurst 250 and the 1000.

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
