Triple Eight returns to three cars

SCT Mustang at Bathurst

For the first time since 2018, Triple Eight will be a three-car operation as it expands following the acquisition of SCT Motorsport.

The SCT entry currently run by Jaxon Evans at BJR will move to Triple Eight in a new two-year deal starting in 2026.

While the driver is yet to be determined, the deal will see the SCT car become a Mustang as Triple Eight builds, manages and races the program.

SCT purchased its own Racing Entitlement Contract in 2020 and has run it at BJR with Evans and Jack Smith behind the wheel.

But in 2026, it will enter a new era at Triple Eight where greater success should be possible.

“Partnering with Triple Eight provides an amazing opportunity for SCT Motorsport to achieve the success that we set at the beginning of the journey in Supercars and continue the growth of the program that has been built over the past five years,” SCT Logistics Head of Motorsport Programs Andrew Jones said.

“Our ultimate aim is to win races, Bathurst and a Championship, this strategic partnership puts us in a terrific position to make that happen.

“My dealings with everyone so far at Triple 8 through the process to bring this partnership to reality have been exceptional and it has given us an insight as to why they have been so successful for such a long period of time.

“We look forward to contributing to that success into the future as an integral part of the team.”

Triple Eight was previously a three-car team from 2016-2018 to cater for the arrival of Shane van Gisbergen alongside established incumbents Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.

It netted instant success as van Gisbergen won the championship on Triple Eight debut, while Lowndes won the Bathurst 1000 in his farewell 2018 season.

Since the retirement of Lowndes, the team returned to its traditional two-car model and won three championships in the six years since.

The only time Triple Eight has expanded is when it has fielded a wildcard at the enduros.

Now Managing Director, Whincup feels the time is right to grow from two to three full-time cars.

“I’m thrilled to have SCT Motorsport partner with us in 2026 as we expand back to a three car operation,” he said.

“Like us, they’ve been involved in the sport for more than twenty years on a quest to continually strive for excellence.

“Our team has specialised in providing a motorsport service to many partners past and present and we look forward to doing the same for SCT Motorsport.

“I’m already impressed with SCT Motorsport’s commitment to achieve best practice and their willingness to commit to whatever is required to run at the front of the Supercars Championship.

“I personally can’t wait to see where we can take this new and exciting partnership.”

SCT Logistics Owner Peter Smith is hopeful of seeing his colours at the front of the field.

“SCT Logistics is a market leading, national multi-modal transport and logistics company, it is important to us that our Supercars program is reflective of that also,” he said.

“I feel that this exciting announcement for SCT Motorsport to partner with Triple Eight Race Engineering will enable us to deliver on aligning both of our businesses.”
