Huge Crowd Greets Bairnsdale Opener

A significant crowd enjoyed the Bairnsdale Speedway Association season opener where Geelong racer Jordan Rae stole the show.
The 30-lap feature event was fast from the drop of the green with Rae leading James Oliver and Dennis Jones.
But things changed at the 24-lap mark where Oliver rode the left rear wheel of Rae and Jones had nowhere to go behind and ended up stationary in Turn 4, causing a caution light stoppage.
On lap 29 Adam Greenwood dropped out of third spot due to mechanical issues and Steven Loader seized the moment.
He joined the dominant Rae and Oliver on the podium as Bairnsdale’s Koby Noonan claimed a top five finish.
Bairnsdale racer Beau Stuchbery ripped around the outside off the line to hit the lead in the Division 2 Hot Rod feature.
It proved to be race winning as Stuchbery took a commanding non-stop win over Leigh Mitchell and Keven Stoopman.
Josh Thomas was off to a hot start also in the Open Standard Saloon class winning the first two of three heats, but mechanical issues ruled him out for the rest of the weekend.
Moe driver Jack Yeomans then won the third and final heat and then Yeomans led Jamie Prezioso racing in the finale by a significant margin.
Daniel Argoon would eventually secure second by picking off Prezioso.
When the race came to its end, Yeomans had set a new twenty-lap record of 6m39.098s.
Darren Adams won the first heat of Limited Sportsman, but that was it after a mechanical gremlin.
Daniel Hurley was the last man standing in heat two and beat Jayden White in a short sprint for heat three.
Jayden White led all ten laps of the Limited Sportsman’s final to defeat Daniel Hurley.
It was a lucky break as well as he snuck home having broken his tail shaft on the last lap in the final metres to the chequered flag.
Kate Stuchbery dominated the women’s class, having won all three of the heat races heading into the final before she set a new six-lap record in the final.
Racing returns on November 8 with the Junior Sedan Promotional Association bringing their drivers from right around Victoria.
