Tamasi makes big championship move

Steven Tamasi has continued his assault on the 2025 National Sports Sedans Championship title by taking a clean sweep at Sandown.
Tamasi was on fire as his Holden Calibra had plenty of legs at the “Home of Horsepower” sweeping the weekend in convincing style.
The clean sweep has seen him steal the championship lead from Geoff Taunton.
The dominance was clear for all to see in qualifying, where the #9 Holinger Engineering machine was a massive 1.9569s ahead of the rest of the field.
Best of the rest was Steven Lacey in his IRC GT SS, having held off Alex Williams, who showed speed in a Mazda RX7.
This left Taunton to settle for fourth.
Tamasi converted pole to a crushing 13s win in the opening race as it was on for second.
Taunton shot to second on the opening lap and held the position until Lap 8 of 11 when Ash Jarvis wrestled the place.
This made it a Holden one-two with Jarvis’ Monaro, while Taunton kept Brad Shiels at arm’s length to complete the podium.
Jeremy Davidson’s Mazda RX7 was the only non-finisher.
The second race of the weekend was restricted to just two laps following Taunton’s crash at Turn 9.
Despite the incident, Taunton still held second after the results were pushed back a lap ahead of Jarvis and behind Tamasi.
This left many eager for racing in the finale, where Tamasi again shot clear to take a hat-trick by 12s.
It was on for second, however, with Jarvis holding off Lacey by eight-tenths.
Dean Camm and Michael Robinson inserted themselves into the top five after the likes of Tamasi and Shiels dropped out.
Tamasi now appears tough to stop with just two rounds remaining, the first coming at The Bend Classic on October 24-26.
Lachlan Evennett emerged victorious following a dramatic fourth round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sandown.
Changeable weather conditions created plenty of challenges, starting in an ultra-tight qualifying.
Pole as decided by just 0.0006s with Evennett edging Jamie Rowe.
But it was Kobi Williams who led the early stages of Race 1 which were disrupted by a Safety Car caused by Giuseppe Imbrogno who had a faulty clutch.
At the restart Evennett resumed control to take a win after the race ended with another Safety Car following a clash between Seth Burchartz, Jack Pennacchia and Jack Johnson.
Another stoppage arrived early in Race 2, this time for a spinning Tabitha Ambrose.
Williams managed to hold off Evennett by four-tenths in the five-lap dash.
The Feature produced plenty of action straight away as Williams, Evennett and Fawcett all shared stints in the lead across the opening series of laps.
A crashed Lachlan Mineeff and beached Imbrogno sparked another Safety Car, which set up a grandstand one-lap dash home.
It delivered as Evennet snared the race and round win with a move around the outside at Dandenong Road.
This left Fawcett and Lowing to complete the podium.
There were a number of other categories on show in the Victorian State Race Series round.
Matt Boylett started brilliantly in Formula RX8 before a final race DNF handed the round to Antonio Cafiso.
The Excels were close as always with back-to-back wins propelling Will Twining four points clear of Emily Jones.
Rio Campbell beat Jones in the final race by a solitary tenth in a result that swayed the round.
There was also little in it in Formula Vee as Rocco Spinley overcame Andre Curin by four points.
The Porsche 944s produced three different winners with Adam Brewer the most consistent.
Steven Jamieson (Saloon Cars) Ian McLennan (Improved Production) and Greg Lynch (Victoiran V8s) scored clean sweeps.
