Nitro Nationals to Decide Top Fuel and Funny Car Titles at Sydney Dragway

It all comes down to this. The 2024/25 Top Fuel and XPRO Nitro Funny Car titles will be decided this Saturday (August 23) at Sydney Dragway, with the Nitro Nationals promising a massive grand final day of drag racing and entertainment.
The season finale will crown two champions, while the Aeroflow Allstars will fight for $25,000 in cash and the Rocket Trophy. Adding to the spectacle, freestyle motocross star Corey Creed and the High Air crew will deliver their trademark gravity-defying show alongside the dragstrip action.
“Clearly, this is set to be one action-packed day of high-octane thrills, and with kids aged 13 and under getting in free, the Nitro Nationals are set to be an epic day out for all,” NDRC co-founder Andy Lopez said.
“We could not be more excited about this event. First off, you’ve got Top Fuel and XPRO Nitro Funny Car unleashing unrelenting power down the drag strip as they battle for event and title glory in their fire-breathing, 11,000hp machines. And then the Aeroflow Allstars are also set to thrill, as will the incredible FMX show – there’s no doubt about it, this is going to be a show for the ages.”
Wayne Newby heads into Sydney with the points lead in Top Fuel, chased by Rapisarda Autosport International teammate and reigning champion Damien Harris. The pair will be part of a seven-car field that also includes Phil Read, Phil Lamattina, Kyle Putland, Steve Read, and US drag racing legend Larry Dixon – who won at Sydney back in May.
“To seal the championship with a win at our home track, Sydney Dragway, and hand our team owner Santo Rapisarda the Stan Sainty Trophy for winning the championship would be an awesome way to finish the season,” Newby said.
In XPRO Nitro Funny Car, Morice McMillin leads teammate Josh Leahy in the standings and is looking to close out the championship early. They will line up against American Tommy Johnson Jnr, defending champion Justin Walshe, and rising talent Chris Stipanovich.
With championships, cash, trophies and pride on the line, Sydney Dragway is set for a fitting end to the NDRC season.
