Reynolds to make footy debut

David Reynolds and Essendon Bombers

By Thomas Miles

Team 18 veteran David Reynolds will swap the steering wheel for the Sherrin tonight as he takes part in a charity game.

Reynolds will be one of the stars of the 2025 Essendon Football Club Legends Game at Marvel Stadium.

He will take the field for the TRADIE Dons against the Bluestar Bombers in a charity game raising funds for mental health as a curtain raiser for the Essendon v St Kilda Round 23 AFL contest.

The 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner admits it will be his first ever game, having hardly kicked a footy before, but is looking forward to the game.

“I’ve been roped into my first ever Aussie Rules game,” Reynolds said.

“I think I’ll be a bench warmer, but it should be a lot of fun. We had a massive laugh at training today with the proper football club, so I reckon it’s going to be a good laugh in the end.

“It’s all about raising money for mental health, so it’s great to be a part of that and have TRADIE supporting it.

“BlueStar Global Logistics is on the other team as well, so it’s the TRADIE Dons versus the Bluestar Bombers.

“We’re actually sponsored by both, so I might even do a cheeky halftime defection, we’ll see what happens.”

Reynolds will take part in the game in the aftermath of the Ipswich Super440 where the #20 Camaro got better as the weekend went on.

After a tough opening race, Reynolds rebounded well and finished the final two races ninth and 11th.

“We had reasonable pace in Ipswich and qualified okay most days,” he said.

“I got shuffled back in the pits, and in the first race I was pushed off the track and went to last.

“I was working my way back through but made a mistake on some oil. It’s been six years since we raced at Ipswich, and it turned out to be a pretty good weekend for us.”
