Golding saddles up for TA2 enduro

Golding Trans Am

By Thomas Miles

James Golding is the latest Supercars star to confirm their signature for the TA2 Tag Team Enduro.

Golding is already at Queensland Raceway for the Supercars this weekend, but he will stay in Ipswich for another race around the “Paperclip” a week later.

The PremiAir Racing driver will partner up with 17-year-old Lachlan Evennett in a Garry Rogers Motorsport Mustang.

The pair already have a solid relationship being teammates in Trans Am, ensuring the only transition they will need to make is shifting over from Hoosier to Goodyear tyres.

Golding is fresh from his best Trans Am weekend, winning two races and the round at Sandown.

“I’m excited to be teaming up with Lachlan for the TA2 two-driver event,” he said.

“He’s been quick in these cars, and it’s going to be something different for me. I’m used to running on Hoosier tyres in the Trans Am car, so adapting to the Goodyear tyre will be a key focus to get the most out of the car.

“It’s definitely an advantage already working together in the Trico Trans Am Series with GRM but he’s had more experience in the TA2 series on the Goodyears, so I’ll be looking to learn from him while also offering my support.

“By the time we get to the endurance race, I think we’ll both be in a strong position to be really competitive.”

In addition to Trans Am, Evennett also has experience in TA2 with his last start also at Queensland Raceway where he finished eighth.

The teenager will also race in the Toyotas at the Supercars round this weekend.

“Jimmy brings a wealth of experience in these cars and in racing overall but there are still a few unknowns with so many drivers in the field, so we’ll just do our thing and see where we’re placed come Sunday,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to learning a lot from Jimmy, it’s not all on one driver but I think we can push each other forward up the grid.”

The TA2 Tag Team Enduro will be contested over six races on August 15-17.
