Supercars to return to the States

Ford Supercars Gen3 testing

By Thomas Miles

With the arrival of Toyota, Supercars will return to the United States to perform more wind tunnel testing.

All three Gen3 Supercars, the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang incumbents, plus the incoming Toyota GR Supra will be shipped to the United States for aerodynamic testing in early December, just after the BP Adelaide Grand Final.

It will take place at the same location, Windshear, where the Camaro and Mustang were examined in a historic series of tests in December 2023.

The Supercars technical department, plus the 2026 homologation teams of Walkinshaw Andretti United (Toyota), Team 18 (Chevrolet) and Triple Eight Race Engineering (Ford) will also be on the ground.

The aim will to ensure the Supra meets the parity of the Camaro and Mustang cars that have been racing in Gen3 since the start in 2023.

The cars will return to Australia in early 2026 before pre-season preparations go into full swing.

“This process gives us complete confidence in the technical foundations of the Championship heading into next year,” Supercars Chief Motorsport Officer Tim Edwards said.

“The teams are working together, the cars will be scanned and checked before and after the tunnel runs, and the data we collect will help deliver the close, hard racing our fans expect.

“We’re incredibly proud of how competitive the racing has been this year.

“We’ve seen an exceptional spread of winners from across the field and some of the closest finishes in our history.

“Wind tunnel testing all three cars together will give us additional data to add to what we will have already collected and help further validate and fine-tune our aerodynamic parity processes.

“Ahead of this exciting new chapter for the sport, this testing will only strengthen our knowledge base ahead of Toyota’s debut in 2026.”
