Vasseur to stay at Ferrari

Vasseur

By Thomas Miles

Despite recent speculation, Scuderia Ferrari has taken the step of backing team principal Fred Vasseur for the future.

Having arrived in 2023, Vasseur will remain the leader of the famous Italian team after signing a “multi-year” contract extension.

Over the last two and a half seasons, the 57-year-old has overseen five wins, but none so far in 2025 when he attracted the coveted signature of Lewis Hamilton.

Ferrari announced the news via social media, putting an end to recent mounting speculation since the sacking of Christian Horner.

Unlike Red Bull, there is no change at the Scuderia.

“Renewing Fred’s contract reflects Ferrari’s determination to build on the foundations laid so far,” the statement read.

“His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari’s values and long-term ambitions.
“Under Fred’s leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement.

“The trust placed in him reflects the team’s confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari’s fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve.”

Vassuer feels he is pushing Ferrari in the right direction and hopes to see more results when the regulations change next year.

“I’m grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me,” he said. “This renewal is not just a confirmation — it’s a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver.

“Over the past 30 months, we’ve laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination.

“We know what’s expected, and we’re all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.”

Ferrari is fresh from its fifth podium of the year thanks to a strong drive in Belgium from Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc has scored all five podiums as new recruit Hamilton has recorded three P4s in addition to his Sprint victory.

The pair sit fifth and sixth in the championship, but have ensured Ferrari retains second in the constructors.

Post Belgium Vassuer painted a positive picture of where things are at.

“The mood is good. For sure it’s not the result that we are expecting with Lewis in the Quali yesterday, but I think it’s part of the life of a racing team that we reacted collectively very well today, that Lewis did a great job,” said Vasseur.

“He was quite aggressive at the beginning in the extreme conditions, he was able to fight with [Alex] Albon until the end and I think it was a good recovery for him also to be efficient like this.

“For sure that we have to do a better job from the beginning, that if you want to score podiums or wins that you can’t let one session away and we will have to do a step next week in Hungary, but we are all pushing in the same direction.”
