SpeedSeries fires up at Sandown

The SpeedSeries is back at Sandown with Ford drivers showing some early speed at the “Home of Horsepower.”
GT World Challenge, GT4 Australia and Trans Am headline a big weekend of racing at Sandown for the fourth round of the 2025 SpeedSeries.
Trans Am kicked things off and James Moffat made an early statement by pipping championship leader Todd Hazelwood.
It was a two-horse race with the leading pair a huge eight-tenths clear of the rest of the field.
Moffat emerged on top with a 1:11.1003, just 0.1811s clear of Hazelwood.
Herne was a distant best of the rest ahead of Aaron Love, who continues his Trans Am learning with Marcos Ambrose Motorsport, while James Golding marked his return to the category with a top five.
A total of 23 of the 24 cars hit the track with only Joshua Thomas staying in the lane.
But Hazelwood hit back in the following session, going a tenth clear of Moffat as the times dipped to 1:11.2483. Golding was able to secure best of the rest honours ahead of Love.
The main event on show is GT World Challenge Australia where Jayden Ojeda and Paul Lucchitti flew out of the gates.
The Mercedes duo were in a league of their own, posting a 1:08.2142, a comfortable half a second clear of the rest.
A pair of “Prancing Horses” were next with Jordan Love, edging clear of championship leaders Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte.
A sea of Audis then completed the top six with Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher getting ahead of category rookie Lee Holdsworth.
GT4 Australia were the last to hit the track with Mustangs fast throughout the session.
Cameron Crick started strong before George Miedecke and Aaron Cameron took turns up front.
At the halfway mark Cameron hit the lead by a slender 0.0686s over Miedecke.
With Daniel Price and Jarrod Hughes also within three tenths, there was little separating the contenders.
More practice is to come as Friday unfolds at Sandown with Trans Am qualifying headlining proceedings at 16.00 AEST.
