Fraser dropped from Aston Martin

Fraser and Talbot Aston Martin

By Thomas Miles

Declan Fraser will not be racing the remainder of the GT World Challenge Australia season, having been replaced by Jamie Day in the Aston Martin.

Supercars co-driver Fraser has been keeping up his racing miles by sharing the Volante Rosso Motorsport #1 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 with Liam Tlabot.

After driving a Triple Eight Mercedes last year, he has driven Aston Martin across the first three rounds with a best result of second, but sits sixth in the standings.

But with the Supercars enduros still more than a month away, he has been replaced for the remainder of the GT World Challenge season.

Volante Rosso Motorsport Director Josh Hunt did not provide a reason for the change, but thanked Fraser.

We would like to thank Declan for his efforts in the first half of the GT World Challenge Australia Championship and we wish him all the best in the Supercars endurance races later this year,” said Hunt.

For us, having Jamie come back into our fold is the next best thing. He is young and fast and has a huge future ahead of him.

Sandown is a brand-new circuit for him but from what weve seen and his ability to adapt, we know that he is going to be competitive very quickly.

“None of this is possible without Jamie’s enthusiasm, his supporters and AMR for being able to organise things to join us with such short notice.”

But it marks a happy return down under for British teen Day, who has prevoius experience with the team at the 2025 Bathurst 12 Hour.

The 19-year-old Aston Martin junior impressed with strong speed around Mountain and has recently taken part in GT races at Paul Ricard and Spa.

He is currently competing in GT World Challenge Europe Endurance and Sprint campaigns with fellow Aston Martin partner team Comtoyou Racing and took victory in Silver class in Italy.

Day is excited to finally take on the GT World Challenge Australia after his first shot at Sydney last year was denied by technical gremlins.

Im super excited to be coming back to Australia,” said Day.

I got the call from Josh and the team at Volante Rosso just recently and Im really looking forward to it.

I didnt get that chance to do it properly at Sydney Motorsport Park last year. To get back to Australia and be there at Sandown, a place Ive never been before, will be a new adventure.

Sandown looks like a completely different track to what Ive been racing in Europe. Ive had a look at it on the simulator and it is a new challenge Im ready to face.

Liam is obviously one of the best Am drivers in the country, so Im looking forward to this weekend.”
