Gill and Brkic on a productive Rally 3 roll

Gill leads the Junior title race at Rally Greece

By Timothy Neal

Junior World Rally Championship pairing Taylor Gill and Dan Brkic have enjoyed a much welcomed and busier schedule ahead of this weekend’s Rally Finland, getting in some valuable miles across Italy and their adopted homeland.

2025 has been thus far in the JWRC Fiesta Rally 3 for the pair, taking out the first two rounds in Sweden and Portugal, before gruelling out a vital second place in Greece to lead the standings in both the FIA Rally Star category and the WRC3.

As things stand, Gill and Brkic hold a slender seven-point lead over their main rival Mille Johansson, with some sponsored WRC2 drives on the line for the JWRC winner for the 2026 WRC season.

However, unlike some of the other junior counterparts, securing seat time outside of the five JWRC rounds is at a premium, as the high costs of competing and testing make it a scarce resource.

After their podium of survival in Greece, the pair then took on the tarmac Rally di Roma Capitale and the Kouvola Rally in Finland as they prepared for a defence on their adopted home turf.

Whilst both rallies saw them encounter some mechanical trouble, their first hit-out in Italy with KMS Racing saw some important tarmac kilometres, with their JWRC season due to end on a double-points, likely winner-take-all, round at the WRC Central European Rally.

In Rome their pace was undeniable, taking a scoop of stages before a fuel pump issue put paid to their challenge for the win.

“My driving on the tarmac is progressing with every kilometre, in the end, both Dan and I are very satisfied with our weekend work,” Gill said after Italy.

“Despite missing the overall result, we ticked some important goals today and it gives us confidence for the future on the tarmac.”

A third rally in three weeks in Finland has the Aussie pair set for miles at the fourth JWRC round

Mechanical issues then let them down again in Finland at the Kouvola Rally, but getting the miles ahead of one of the fastest rallies on the calendar all made it an important outing.

“Unfortunately we had to retire on the road section before the final stage due to a small technical issue,” Gill stated.

“Not an easy day for us but things progressed throughout the afternoon to a more positive pace, and it was very useful to get these kilometres under our belt before Rally Finland at the end of the month.”

Follow Taylor and Dan on July 17-20 as they look to replicate their sensational JWRC Rally Finland from 2024, and extend their points lead ahead of the season finale in central Europe.
