Mostert looking for Townsville breakthrough

Chaz Mostert racing around Townsville 2024

By Thomas Miles

After a tough weekend in Darwin, Chaz Mostert is determined to bounce back and achieve new heights at Townsville.

Mostert achieved just one top 10 last time out at Hidden Valley and even qualified as low as 23rd as he now sits almost 200 points away from the top four in the Sprint Cup standings.

He now heads to a street track he has enjoyed plenty of silverware at, but never the trophy he desperately wants.

Mostert has scored eight podiums at Townsville, but has never stood on the top step.

He had to wait until his seventh season to get his first Townsville trophy in 2019, but they came thick and fast in the following years.

During the 2020 double header, he claimed three podium finishes and also recorded back-to-back third-place finishes in the second trip in 2021.

Mostert also secured a fighting third in the first Gen3 race at Townsville, while he was fast last year, finishing second and third.

It is a stat he is determined to break this weekend as he and WAU look to strike back, having claimed just one win so far in 2025.

Rolling out of the truck fast is also a key consideration, given there will be a Friday afternoon race on the schedule in just the fifth three-race weekend in Townsville history.

“Townsville is a strong track for myself and our Team, I’ve had a few podiums but never quite managed to see the view from the top step, that’s what we are aiming for this weekend,” Mostert said.

“Friday’s afternoon race puts the pressure to roll out of the truck strong, if you’re behind the eightball you’ve only got a short amount of time to turn the car around before the race.

“I had some great battles here last year, it’s a track that encourages great racing, there will be plenty of action this weekend again, I am sure of it!”

In addition to the traditional pair of 250km races over the weekend, Friday will be brought to life with a 100km sprint at 15.40 AEST, which will be only broadcast on Fox and Kayo before Seven joins over the weekend.
