Perkins unveils Aussie-inspired NASCAR colours

Jack Perkins NASCAR livery

By Thomas Miles

Jack Perkins is ready to embark on his American dream, and he has unveiled the livery he will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Chicago this weekend.

Perkins will kick off a two-race NASCAR stint at Joe Gibbs Racing in Chicago before returning for the Portland second-tier race.

In the Xfinity Series race he will battle fellow Supercars star Shane van Gisbergen, while Will Brown is also in town for the Cup Series.

Having already teased the livery, the special #19 colour scheme has been officially unveiled, retaining the Aussie theme.

Designed by renowned Australian automotive and motorsport designer Peter Hughes, Supra features the flag of Australia on each side of the car, while the US stars and stripes run across its roof to the trunk.

Perkins will also run a special helmet designed by Sydney-based Frank Stivala at RStar Design that pays homage to his famous father, Larry.

“The #19 Shaw and Partners Financial Services Toyota Supra looks awesome; Peter Hughes has swung the bat like Babe Ruth and hit it out of the park. He’s scored a home run with this design,” Perkins said.

“All of the guys at the JGR shop are telling me it’s one of the best liveries they’ve ever seen and about how appreciative they are that we are paying respect to the history of our nations working together.

“I felt proud to hear that.

“Like the car, my new helmet is nothing short of spectacular, and I can’t thank Frank enough for his brilliant work.”

Practice starts on Saturday, 5 July at 9:30 AM (12:30 AM, Sunday, 6 July AEST), with qualifying following soon after at 10:30 AM (1:30 AM AEST).
