Trans Am turns to Sandown after Winton cancellation

With Race Winton no more, Trans Am has turned to Sandown for its Victorian leg of the 2025 season.
After roaring around Darwin, the fourth round of the 2025 Trans Am season will now take place at Sandown as part of the SpeedSeries GT Festival at the end of July.
It was originally set for the Race Winton event, which was scheduled to take place on August 22-24.
However, orgainsers Australian Racing Group have elected to cancel the event following withdrawals from TCR Australia and AU3.
But with Trans Am locking in a late invite to the SpeedSeries event, the V8 category will retain a Victorian presence.
“We’re really pleased to join the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown next month,” said Trans Am Category Manager Liam Curkpatrick.
“We feel that Trans Am will be a great fit at the event, with a big field and great names competing.
“Trans Am started its competition in Australia with the Shannons SpeedSeries.
“We always had a great working relationship with the group, and we’re looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans – both at the track and on the Seven Network’s broadcast.”
SRO Motorsports Australia CEO Ben McMellan has described the addition of Trans Am to the card alongside GT World Challenge Australia and GT4 as a “win-win.”
“It’s great to welcome the Trans Ams back to the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown for our July event,” said McMellan.
“It was unfortunate that AU3 has not been able to attend. We are looking forward to working with them in the future, but when Trans Am gave us a call, it was a very obvious decision. For us, it was a win-win for both parties.
“Trans Am will complement the other Shannons SpeedSeries categories really well.
“They will enjoy a lot of track time and Sandown is suited perfectly to their style of cars and racing.”
The remainder of the Trans Am season remains unimpacted with three straight South Australian rounds at The Bend, Mallala and Adelaide.
