Bargwanna TCM Commodore ready after test

Bargwanna with rebuilt Commodore

By Thomas Miles

The Jude Bargwanna Carlton Zero VB Commodore is not only rebuilt, but has a test under its belt ahead of this weekend’s trip to Darwin.

The Touring Car Masters go racing at Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend and three entries have endured some high-stress breaks since the last start at Symmons Plains.

One of them was Bargwanna and the Duggan Family Racing Team after its Commodore went head-on into the barriers in Tasmania.

But with the help of Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars, the team has completed a tight turnaround to get the car fixed and even get it on track ahead of the big trip to Darwin.

“We got to Sydney Motorsport Park on Friday night and Terry from MRA let us on for a couple of laps and we just made it,” Bargwanna told Auto Action.

“We were still putting some things together Friday afternoon and turned 10 laps or so at 10.30 at night. Tight schedule, but we got it all done.

“It went really well, and the car ran flawlessly, which is amazing considering all the work that has been done to it.

“It is a massive credit to all the boys at Bendigo. They have put so much work and effort into getting us there, and hopefully we can reward them.

“We could not have done anything without them, and they have been stellar.”

Bargwanna has never raced at Hidden Valley Raceway before, but can be boosted by the knowledge of the driver who steered the Commodore last year, Adam Garwood was victorious.

“Everything is on track, and when we get there, we will do a few little set-up things,” he said.

“I am looking forward to getting up there and escaping the winter cold.

“I have never been there so we have some learning to do, but confident we are on top of the package to be around the mark.

“Then it will be about fine-tuning things and moving forward.

“Adam went well last year which brings some confidence knowing we will have a good base package to work from.”
