Supercars Powerbrokers in Perth for Key Street Race Talks

PROPOSED PERTH SUPERCARS STREET CIRCUT-PERTH STADIUM

By Andrew Clarke

Senior Supercars officials, including returning CEO James Warburton, are in Perth this week for high-level talks aimed at keeping the city’s future street race on track, with the event now expected to open the 2027 season.

The visit comes at a sensitive time for Supercars, after a report on an industry media outlet caused significant embarrassment and disrupted negotiations with key local partners.

Despite the fallout, the category remains confident it can repair the damage and secure the event’s future.

This week’s meetings that coincide with this year’s Perth round of the Supercars Championship include government representatives and infrastructure stakeholders, all focused on delivering the 12-turn inner-city layout revealed last month.

The proposed circuit winds through some of Perth’s most recognisable streets and is shaping as a major tourism and sporting drawcard.

While the original target was a 2026 debut, updated timelines now have the Perth Street Race likely launching in 2027, with strong consideration to make it the Supercars season opener. The calendar move would reflect Warburton’s broader push to refresh the championship with destination events and international appeal as revealed in his exclusive interview in this month’s Auto Action Premium Magazine.

Perth was officially confirmed as a future Supercars host city in mid-2024, following months of planning and feasibility work. The finalised layout promises a mix of high-speed sections and tight corners designed for overtaking and strong spectator viewing.

This week’s meetings are expected to lock in key delivery milestones, commercial partnerships, and event responsibilities. Hopefully more will be revealed this weekend.
