Verstappen makes revealing admission

Max Verstappen has taken to social media to admit the clash with George Russell “should not have happened” at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen and Mercedes rival Russell clashed once again, with their latest episode arriving at last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The pair were first side by side at Turn 1, where Red Bull requested Verstappen to give the place back to the Brit.

Verstappen slowed ahead of Turn 5, only to accelerate and collide with Russell’s wheels.

His Mercedes rival and many pundits believed it was deliberate and a bad look for F1.

But Verstappen was defiant and firmly refused questions asking if it was a deliberate move or not.

However, Verstappen has opened up further on Instagram and revealed some regret over the late-race drama that saw him slip from third to 10th.

“We had an exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, till the safety car came out,” he said.

“Our tyre choice to the end and some moves after the safety car restart fuelled my frustration, leading to a move that was not right and shouldn’t have happened.

“I always give everything out there for the team and emotions can run high. You win some together, you lose some together. See you in Montreal.”
