Supercars stars set for Chicago Street Race

Waters at Sonoma

By Andrew Clarke

While some NASCAR stars are eyeing the Adelaide 500, a trio of Supercars heavy hitters are heading the other way – with the NASCAR Chicago Street Race in July shaping up as the next frontier for Australian drivers.

Will Brown and Cam Waters are expected to contest the Cup Series race on the streets of Chicago, while Broc Feeney is believed to be targeting a start in the Xfinity Series.

The event is the same one where Shane van Gisbergen stunned the NASCAR world in 2023, winning on debut in one of the most talked-about performances in recent memory.

Van Gisbergen’s Chicago win proved what many inside Supercars already knew: these drivers can adapt fast, handle big horsepower, and deliver results. It wasn’t just a one-off either. The Kiwi now races full-time in NASCAR, and while his 2025 campaign has delivered mixed results so far, his impact—particularly in last year’s Xfinity races—has opened the door for others.

Will Brown is the latest name to walk through it. The reigning Supercars champion is understood to be finalising plans for Chicago. With Richard Childress Racing already locked into three cars for that weekend, Brown is expected to run through an affiliated team—likely Kaulig Racing, which shares technical resources with RCR.

Cam Waters, meanwhile, will return for his second Cup start after debuting at Sonoma with RFK Racing. His first run was solid, if unspectacular, but showed enough promise to earn another shot. The Tickford driver had previously raced in the Truck Series and impressed with his composure and feel.

Then there’s Broc Feeney. The Triple Eight driver has yet to turn a lap in a NASCAR, but talks are underway for a possible Xfinity Series debut at Chicago. The 21-year-old has been one of Supercars’ most consistent performers over the past 18 months, and a stateside appearance would be more about exposure and experience than immediate results.

If the deal is done, Feeney would likely land with a Chevrolet-aligned team, running in the Saturday support race. Unlike Brown and Waters, there’s no Cup seat waiting—nor is there a rush.
