Mustang GT4 hits back

miedecke and gray win again

By Thomas Miles

For the first time in 2025, the Ford Mustang is the leading car of GT4 Australia after George Miedecke and Rylan Gray drove to glory at SMP.

In the fourth race of the season, Miedecke and Gray broke through, but only just with the margin of victory in Silver Cup a meagre six tenths.

Right behind them were Cody Burcher and Tim Leahey, while the fight to join them on the podium was also a nail-biter.

Four seconds adrift were Nash Morris and Zoey Woods, who fended off championship leaders Tom Hayman and Max Geoghegan by four tenths.

During the opening stint the race appeared to be following a familiar direction with Geoghegan bolting out of the blocks to a strong early lead after some side by side contests.

He controlled the entire first half of the race with his advantage growing to almost 4s before a Safety Car arrived for the crashed Josh Nikoloski.

Miedecke had settled into second, but the decision to be the first contender to box on Lap 12 proved to be a master stroke.

With the leading #25 not stopping for another four laps, Gray pushed hard in the #35 Mustang and emerged in control of the race.

Right behind him however was Burcher in the BMW and whilst the final laps were nail-biting, he could never quite get close enough for victory.

After the pit stop compensation time, Hayman emerged down in seventh in the #25, but quickly got to work.

He rose to fourth in the space of four laps, but that was all on offer for the championship leader.

With Morris and Woods on the podium and Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoule also pushing hard, the top five was completed by five different manufacturers.

Silver am was comfortably claimed by Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall.

Am was much closer as Shane Smollen held off his challengers.

The race was relatively clean with only Lib Palermo and Rob Rubis joining Nikoloski in the DNF list.

Queensland Raceway is next on May 30 to June 1.
