AUSTRALIAN TITLE WON BY FOWLER

Race fans packed Wahgunyah Speedway to see a wonderful night of racing on Anzac Day weekend led by the Grand Prix Midgets chasing their Australian title event with Chris Fowler emerging victorious for the first time.
Almost 20 drivers competed for honours in the Australian title and Alex Myers dominated the heats with Paul Perry, Chris Fowler, Riley Bowyer and Gary Bowyer also victorious.
With 20 laps ahead of them, 17 racers began the Australian title race with Myers the top qualifier an early race leader.
Gavin Black soon showed strong pace and then assumed the front spot on lap four and maintained the lead as the race charged into the second half.
By lap 13 Fowler went to second as Gary Bowyer dropped out of the leader’s group and his son Riley moved into fifth.
But Black was never being challenged as he cruised to the chequered flag.
However, a post-race technical check found Black’s wing height out of alignment with the rules and he was disqualified by stewards after being shared the findings by scrutineers.
As a result Fowler from Geelong was declared the winner from Buckley and Kamolins.
In Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association competition, the current Victoria #2 Ben Schmetzer confirmed the favouritism with a heat win, while Brandon Lovel and Tom Schmetzer also won.
In a terrific performance on his way to claiming his first ever Speedway win, Lovell then led every lap in the fifteen-lap final by seven seconds from Ben Schmetzer and Alex Gouveia.
The thunderous Dirt Modifieds were also on hand with Shane Ardley and Zeke Edwards winning the heats.
Edwards would be the star of the class setting three new track records and winning the final by over 8s from Ardley and Jack Smith.
The visiting Speedway Drivers Association of Victoria Hot Rods also held three heat races in their Legends Cup night of racing.
Victorian champion Shannon Meakins won the first heat, whilst his wife Kali Hovey beat him in the next sprint as Tony Green claimed the third.
Meakins secured the front spot of the race right from the start and was marginally faster through the 12-lap final to finish in front of Green, Allan Borradale.
Wahgunyah Speedways next event on May 24 led by the Lachie Howie Memorial for Standard Saloons.
