TYRES THE TALK

As Supercars practice concluded at Albert Park, an issue with the new-for-2025 Dunlop tyre has emerged.

It was best explained by Chaz Mostert, who struggled during the practice sessions,

“If you slide at all, the tyre temp instantly goes up by 30-40 degrees, and you’re in trouble,” the WAU driver said.

“We’re going to have to keep it as straight as possible …”

James Courtney was caught out during P2, with the Blanchard Racing Mustang simply letting go at quite an early stage of the corner. The car hit the wall, with enough damage to keep it out of Qualifying.

Opinion among the drivers suggested that the ‘raw’ and unused (for racing) track surface may well have played its part in the situation.

Qualifying began with all drivers agreeing that it was a ‘one-lap’ tyre, in qualifying terms.

Spectators thus seem destined for a series of races this weekend with little by the way of opposite lock …
