Jones Vs Ghiretti: epic Porsche battle reborn for AGP

With news that French young gun Alessandro Ghiretti will join EMA Motorsport for the Australian GP Porsche Carrera Cup round, it reignites the thrilling Rookie Championship battle from the 2023 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with Aussie star Harri Jones.
Jones also dominated the opening round of the Carrera Cup at SMP as he hunts for a third national one-make title, opening up the AGP round as a scintillating prospect of two in-form drivers going head-to-head once more on a huge stage.

Monza flashback…
The two Rookies both finished in the top-ten in the outright table, with Jones finishing in 9th, and Ghiretti in 7th. But it was in the cut throat Rookie Championship where the two drew battle lines at the Monza finale
Whilst Jones would take out the Rookie win at the season finale (his first of the season) in P4 outright, he needed to finish third outright to take the title after Ghiretti crashed out of the race at the halfway mark.

Jones actually held third on the penultimate lap after working his way up the field, but huge pressure from Italian Simone Iaquinta forced Jones wide in the gravel as he pushed to keep the spot.
Whilst Jones returned home to take out his second Carrera Cup title in 2024, Ghiretti is the reigning champion of the Asian and French Porsche Carrera Cups.

The Frenchman will join local guns Bayley Hall and Sam Shahin in the EMA AGP squad.
“I’m really excited about joining EMA Motorsport for the Melbourne GP weekend. Racing at such a prestigious event is always something special, and this will be my first time racing in Australia, which makes it even more incredible,” Ghiretti said.
“I’m super happy to have this opportunity, and I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere and the track firsthand.
“I want to sincerely thank the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, and Porsche Motorsport for making this possible, and to EMA Motorsport for this opportunity and their trust.
They have put together a strong lineup for the weekend, and I believe we have everything we need to deliver a strong result, so I’m looking forward to working together and making the most of this amazing event.”
The AGP kicks off on March 13-16.
