Field set for Le Mans 24 Hours

By Thomas Miles

A capacity 62-car field featuring four Aussies will take on the 93rd edition of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours race in 2025.

In addition to all 36 FIA World Endurance Championship entries, a further 26 cars will be taking on the Circuit de la Sarthe on June 14.

All up there will be 21 Hypercars, 17 LMP2s and 24 LMGT3s, while six teams are reserves.

Porsche Penske Motorsport hypercar driver Matt Campbell leads the Aussie assault which at this stage also includes LMGT3 drivers Yasser Shahin, Stephen and Brenton Grove.

Campbell will be chasing overall glory in the #6 Porsche 963 with Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor.

Shahin will be looking to go back to back in class honours and is in form after scoring a third place with Augusto Farfus and Timur Boguslavskiy at the Qatar opener.

The Groves are taking on Le Mans after being confirmed as part of a wider Mercedes campaign alongside Luca Stolz.

There will be plenty of variety as always with eight manufacturers in the outright Hypercar class alone including Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Peugeot, Porsche, Toyota and Aston Martin.

“Once again, the 24 Hours of Le Mans presents a superb grid,” said Pierre Fillon, Président de l’Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

“The 93rd running of the race is also the fourth round of this FIA WEC season.

“The greatest carmakers on earth are all aiming to go home with the LMGT3 crown and to lift the trophy presented to the outright winners.

“The LMP2 prototypes add to the diversity that makes this race so popular.

“These makes, teams, and our partners are united in their commitment to endurance racing and their vitality is the key element in our discipline’s current golden age.

“I would like to express my gratitude to them. We have all the ingredients of a memorable race.

“Competition in the Hypercar field is about as tough as it can get.

“Last year, the first nine cars finished in the same lap. Unheard of!

“Race strategy, team efficiency and pure talent make the difference that puts one car ahead of the rest.

“Here we are in 2025, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains one of the most gruelling sporting events, one of the most coveted trophies of the motorsport world.”
