Jones to build Carrera Cup legacy

In addition to a first crack at Supercars, Harri Jones will defend his Porsche Carrera Cup Australia title with his own team in 2025.
Jones will drive a new look #1 for Jones Motorsport which has picked up personell from Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport which suddenly closed in January 2025.
Jones’ 2024 Race Engineer David Swenson, plus the experienced Matt Cook, Matt Walton, and Jack Chaplin mean the core of the successful team remains in place.
Jones dominated the 2024 Carrera Cup winning 12 of the 24 races on his way to joining Craig Baird as the only drivers to win multiple Australian titles in the one make series.
He is looking forward to growing that record in 2025 as he prepares for a maiden shot at Supercars with Team 18.
“I’m thrilled to be back on the Carrera Cup grid for another championship challenge in 2025,” said Jones.
“It’s been a whirlwind start to the year, and without the incredible support of my team and partners, none of this would be possible.
“What we’ve been able to achieve in such a short period is incredible. With the right people, infrastructure, and a commitment to performance, we’re ready to fight for the title this season.”
Reflecting on his dominant drive last year, Jones said he returned from his one year in Europe battling the best in the Supercup as a more complete driver.
“I think the performance in Carrera Cup Australia last year came from what I learned in Europe. That year in Europe was pivotal for my career,” he told Auto Action.
“I went over there with the Carrera Cup championship under my belt, but I did not realise the level the Europeans race at.
“I think I developed more in that year than any other in my career so I was very happy with my results to be so close to Rookie Cup honours.
“It was a little bit heartbreaking to miss out but at the end of the day I look at the trajectory of my performance and I was so happy.
“Combining that with the expertise of Porsche Centre Melbourne meant I was so confident behind the wheel.
“There were a lot of things I learnt about my driving style in Europe you would not be aware of in Australia just because of the amount of laps you do and the professionalism.
“I took so much from that season professionally and personally and all of those lessons will be critical in a Supercar.”
Jones revealed he had an opportunity to stay in Europe after his promising rookie campaign for Lechner Racing.
But going forward he is happy at home and would like to become something of a benchmark for aspiring Aussie youngsters.
“Over there you become so embedded within European motorsport and I was weighing up my options and there was an opportunity to stay there but I made the decision to come back here and pursue a full-time career,” he said.
“Even for other people that are racing against me they know they are coming up against a proper benchmark.
“If they can race hard with me they can go to Europe with confidence of being competitive.
“What I missed was that benchmark because you do well here and then go over there and get a rude awakening.
“At the same time when you are pushed into a position to either sink or swim it forces you to delve deeper into your habits.”
