Road to the Classic begins

By Thomas Miles

Preparations for the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic are in full swing as some of the biggest names come to Warrnambool for tonight’s inaugural ARB Warrnambool International Sprintcar Carnival.

The new event has been added to the Premier Speedway calendar as the perfect entree for the main event a week later.

The sprintcars only meeting sees cars on track from 18.00 to 21.30 local time.

A strong field of 49 cars have entered the event with the biggest names all looking to get an early taste of Premier Speedway.

Leading the nominations list is Australian champion Lockie McHugh, who is in hot form having took some special wins in Toowoomba recently.

The 2023 Classic winner Brock Hallett is also there having been McHugh’s nearest rival in the Speedweek.

Fast Tasmanian Jock Goodyer is also there, plus Australian High Limit and World of Outlaws winner James McFadden.

The likes of Jamie Veal, Ryan Jones and Daniel Peskta also showed speed at the recent Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek.

Supercars star Cameron Waters is back as his sprintcar summer continues.

Chase Randall, Riley Goodno and Cory Eliason are the American spearheads looking to taking it to the locals.

A strong Western Australian contingent will descend on Sungold Stadium. Dayne Kingshott comes fresh off a W.A. Speedweek series win for Krikke Motorsport with Callum Williamson also looking to bring the regular speed he has at the Perth Motorplex to the east.
