Ferrari to power new Cadillac F1 team

Ferrari will power the new Cadillac F1 team for two seasons before General Motors develops its own engines.

Cadillac will become the 11th Formula 1 team in 2026 with GM intended on becoming a full factory manufacturer.

But with that only becoming possible in 2028, the Cadillac team had to be a customer entry for two years and it turned to Ferrari for power.

It is the latest big announcement since the news that Cadillac will join the F1 grid being led by TWG Global, which took over the operation from Andretti Global.

Former Manor boss Graeme Lowdon will be the team principal and was delighted by the Ferrari deal.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies,” said Lowdon.

“Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people.”

In addition to its famous red works team, Ferrari currently supplies power units to Haas and Sauber.

The addition of Cadillac in 2026 will ensure the Italian marquee supplies three teams as Sauber becomes Audi.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur said it will be a key partnership.

“It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States,” he said.

“We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. 

“It means we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.”

Mercedes remains the biggest supplier with Alpine joining McLaren and Williams in 2026 as Honda heads to Aston Martin, while Ford and Audi arrive.
