All Aussie season for Carrera Cup

By Thomas Miles

After going overseas in 2024, next year the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia will stay on our shores for an eight-round season.

This year the Carrera Cup ventured to Taupo, New Zealand for the first time, but a return will not take place.

Instead the Porsches will stay in Australia, racing at some of the biggest events on the Supercars calendar.

Queensland Raceway and The Bend make comebacks having not hosted the category since 2008 and 2023 respectively.

The season has a new beginning at Sydney Motorsport Park in late February at the Sydney 500.

A return to the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park follows before a three-month break ahead of the Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley

Then a busy second half of the season follows with five rounds in the space of just three months.

The 18-year absence from Queensland Raceway will be broken on August 8-10.

The Carrera Cup then follows the Supercars to both enduros at The Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 events.

Like recent years, the season will finish at the high profile street events of Gold Coast and Adelaide.

“The 2025 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship features seven of the strongest events on the Repco Supercars Championship calendar along with our annual visit to the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne,” said Porsche Cars Australia Manager Marketing and Motorsport John Murray.

“Returning to Queensland Raceway works extremely well from a timing perspective and shows our support for a long-time Porsche Carrera Cup Competitor, circuit owner Tony Quinn.

“The same can be said for our return to The Bend alongside their new enduro.

“The calendar includes solid pacing throughout which, when coupled with the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge calendar to be announced, gives our teams regular events throughout the year while managing logistical challenges throughout the season as well as possible.

“Our relationship with the Repco Supercars Championship is as strong as ever and we are looking forward to being part of their exciting 2025 championship.”

This weekend both Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship titles could be decided on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

With 362 points up for grabs cross the final two rounds, Harri Jones is well placed to score a second Carrera Cup Australia crown as he leads David Russell by 229 points after a fourth straight round win at Bathurst.

But the fight for second is much closer with Jackson Walls and Dylan O’Keeffe just 19 and 38 points behind Russell respectively.

Meanwhile, Adrian Flack leads the Pro-Am class by 345 points, however that will change when the classes’ ‘drop your worst round’ is added into the equation.

The first race is on Saturday before two further sprints are held on Sunday.
