Team 18 ready after big night on the tools

The David Reynolds/Warren Luff Camaro should be ready for Practice 5 after the Team 18 “stars” stayed up all night with a massive effort.
Reynolds will start the 2024 Bathurst 1000 from 21st on the grid after a heavy crash in qualifying.
Running fourth at the time, the 2017 Great Race winner was pushing hard through the Esses, lost the rear and went head on into the outside wall.
The end result of the unfortunate accident was an all-night job for Team 18 with a completely new front clip, plus chassis repairs required.
“We went in at 6 this morning, had a shower and then came back,” Team 18 Team Principal Adrian Burgess confirmed to AUTO ACTION.
“There is a new front clip, that was well un-straight. It took a few hours to get the chassis where it needed to be, all the critical points.
“A couple of the legs have moved up to an inch so it was not a small task, but the boys have done an amazing job. They are the stars.
“The most important bit is the engine installation was correct and the driveline is straight and not loaded up or anything.
“Then obviously the most important thing is that it’s safe and strong which we are very happy with.
“We will do an installation on it this morning to make sure everything is fine and running well.
“We will iron out any lingering issues and get the race set-up on the car before concentrating on tomorrow’s race.”
With Reynolds and Luff being the fastest Team 18 car all weekend, Burgess still feels the #20 has a good shot at winning the Great Race.
“These things happen and why it makes winning the thing so enjoyable when you do,” he said.
“We were pushing being fourth at the time and up on the next lap.
“The (tyre) pressures were at the point where they were getting a bit too high which did not help him but we don’t mind if they are pushing at the front like that. It is just part of the risk you take.
I would rather that than wobble around at the back.
“We still have a good crack at winning this race tomorrow.
“If people can win it from the back then that shows what can be done, that is no disrespect to Paul and Chaz.
“We will keep punching and focus on the job.”
Whilst Team 18 is expected to roll out for Practice 5 at 10.05 AEDT, it is unclear whether or not the other major victim of Qualifying, Will Davison, will join them.
The garage doors are currently still closed at Dick Johnson Racing with David Noble unsure in the immediate aftermath.
