New Ferrari championship coming to Australia

By Thomas Miles

The presence of the “prancing horse” in Australia will grow in 2025 when the new Ferrari Challenge Australasia arrives.

Ferrari Australasia has announced a five-round one-make series that will run as a support category to the GT World Challenge Australia.

The season begins at the Bathurst 12 Hour on January 31-February 2 before trips to Phillip Island, Sydney Motorsport Park and The Bend.

The second trip to SMP will not only be the penultimate round, but also be the main show of a Ferrari exclusive event.

Competitors will vie for two titles – Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia for Ferrari 296 Challenge drivers, and Ferrari Challenge Coppa Shell Australasia, up for grabs for Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo entrants.

The 296 is already making a big impact in Australia, with Arise Racing sporting two red rockets in the GT World Challenge Australia that have both been driven to victory by Chaz Mostert, Liam Talbot, Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte.

Ferrari Challenge Australasia is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere with series already based in Europe, North America, United Kingdom and Japan.

Drivers who perform in the Australian championship will have the opportunity to compete in Finali Mondiali, the annual race event hosted in Italy that effectively acts as a grand final in the Prancing Horse’s Endurance and Corse Clienti programs.

“We are delighted to announce this championship, a project our team has been working on for a long time,” said Global Head of Ferrari Endurance and Corse Clienti Antonello Coletta.

“The introduction of the Australasia series is part of a clear strategy that began with the UK regional series and continued with the Japan series, which has been a great success in terms of participation.”
